Unleash your creative spirit at this funky and colourful hostel in a restored two-storey Victorian residence. Guests are encouraged to draw and paint, or create sweet soul music on the hostel's guitars, pianos, didgeridoo and African drums. With all that creative energy, there's definitely a laidback social vibe, and this is one of NZ's best and most unique hostels.

3hrs per day Help exchange for accommodation, 10 day stays or 2 week stays available, jobs involve cleaning, laundry, gardening, house maintenance, or helping to make beds. There is also 1 long term accommodation exchange during the afternoon or evening time - may suit someone who works in the town at one of Oamaru's cafes, bakeries or restaurants, it is likely we would like help with laundry including pressing sheets and help with recycling.
We are looking for Help X guests that know how to clean, maybe you have lived and maintained your own home or have contributed in you parents home in the cleaning.
Washing machine is free for our wwoofing guests, let our staff know and we will pay the $5
You can work an extra half hour for 50mb WiFi voucher - this can be creative projects and not limited to 50mb - alternatively we have a special half price offer 200mb for $10

Onsite Live In Reception Role At Chillawhile - Accommodation Exchange 6 bed dormitory + Part Paid Base Rate of $100 weekly, additional responsibilities of phone shifts available for additional pay, + commission on sales at Chillawhile Backpackers Art Gallery Oamaru - 2 months, Chillawhile can accommodate 23 paying guests. This position will suit backpackers on a working holiday visa that would like to explore Oamaru and the surrounding areas.
2 onsite manager roles; duties include on alternating rota of evening reception 4pm - 9pm and morning cleaning 10am - 1pm, followed with time off consisting of 27 consecutive hours - a chance to sightsee Oamaru, Moeraki Boulders, Elephant Rocks and enjoy our hostel.
The position offers flexibility as there are 2 managers, there are opportunities to take short travel brakes or cover extra shifts. ie visit Dunedin or Mount Cook.
Reception shift 4pm - 9pm involves checking in guests, receiving payment, cashing up, the online booking system is managed and updated by the owner and accessed from the front desk computer.
Morning shift 3 hours 10am - 1pm, involves leading our wwoofing team, you will be trained to make beds to a quality level to ensure that standards are maintained.
Phones, emails and online booking sites are handled by the owner, however there are are times now that phone responsibilities are available for additional pay.
During the afternoon shift, once daily jobs are complete, as well as making yourself available to our guests you are free to socialise, cook dinner, dine and wine, make music or paint during these reception hours.
Prior housekeeping and/or reception experience is an asset although not a must. We will train you on all aspects of cleaning as well as bed making. We have 2 steam mops, a hand held steam cleaner, a UV-C Anti-Allergy hand held Vacuum Cleaner + 3 vacuum cleaners for efficient and healthy cleaning.
Sales commissions - paid on completion of 2 months.

Accommodation Exchange - 6 bed mixed staff dormitory, internet, laundry, quality professionally maintained bikes for staff, lots of social spaces and gardens at our hostel and you can always find a quiet space to relax.
This is an accommodation exchange in addition it is part paid. The bonus pay is paid after the 2 month duration, Nett PAYE paid every 7 shifts, must hold an IRD number and working holiday visa, should you leave earlier than 2 months there is no bonus pay.
This role comes up once a month, less when our staff stay on longer.
