Volunteering in a seaside hotel

Location: Blackpool, UK
Would you like to join us in a friendly seaside hotel on the Promenade in Blackpool?
This is the place where the charm of the Victorian hotel meets the enthusiasm and the young spirit of an international traveller, where one can start a career as a general assistant manager, a chef, a designer, a builder, a barmaid/barman, etc. - and participate in renovating the hotel and running it!

LOCATION
Blackpool is a seaside holiday destination, right in the middle of Great Britain, full of things to do 24/7, and it is well connected with other cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, Lancaster, Chester, York, the Lake District and charming little rural villages. There are lots of amusements and one of the biggest amusement parks in England. Being in front of the sea allows one to see wonderful sunsets.

WORK
Team work for reliable, honest, friendly, IT- and technology-fluent, cheerful, positive people. There are plenty of things to do: help with repairs and renovations (for those who are good at DIY, various repairs around the house, renovation, decoration) - this might include physical work (please advise in advance about your health conditions); help with cleaning rooms and hotel premises, ironing, cooking/baking, serving breakfasts; help in cafe-bar and front house-reception, ...
For volunteers, we are offering 25h work/week (normally 5 hours per day with 2 days off, alternative arrangements are also possible) - scheduling is flexible, organised weekly.

ACADEMIC AND LANGUAGE OPPORTUNITIES
Students are very welcome. Wide possibilities for successfully passing your internship (incl. official academic internship). Ideally to practice language(s) - be ready for local accents. All helpers (incl. those who aim to improve their language skills during their time with us) will be required to speak regularly with guests and customers at the hotel.

ACCOMMODATION
Shared accommodation (2 people in the room, shared bathroom. Note: rooms are really small, which is typical for Blackpool).

FOOD
Food/drinks are included (no junk food or alcoholic drinks, but everything for a healthy diet). Helpers are welcome to master their cooking/baking talents in our kitchen.

WHAT TO BRING
We provide bedding and towels, as well as shower gel, shampoo, etc. We provide all special equipment - gloves, aprons, overalls.
Please take some clothes which you will not be afraid to get dirty (for cleaning) and (semi-) formal nice ones (when you assist with guests).
Please take your computer and/or smart phone. Our daily organisation is done online, so your personal devices will be useful. Remember to take an adapter for your computer or phone (plug sockets are different in the UK)
A good wind-proof jacket will be useful as well - the seaside is very nice, but can be rather windy and cold.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW
Working language is strictly English (spoken and written English essential). Second language is a definite plus.
We live in an atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration. Bad, racist, drunken, criminal and/or anti-social behaviour, bad language towards other guests or members of the staff and/or not following internal hotel standards (incl. those of Food and Hygiene, and deep cleaning) and internal rules (incl. those of mutual respect and consideration, communication strictly in English) are of ZERO-tolerance here.
We can host only adults (from 18 years old). If you are a couple, family or friends, please do not apply: unfortunately, we do not have a possibility to host groups.
Please advise in advance about your health conditions. Citizens of EU should bring their current European Health Insurance Card, citizens of other countries are responsible for their own arrangements (incl. appropriate visas and medical documentation).
All volunteers will be ID-checked on arrival.
