Volunteer at a Buddhist Meditation Centre

We are a Buddhist centre in the heart of Leicester city centre, Leicesterhsire, England. Only one hour from London. We have one beautiful meditation room, en-suite accommodation and a World Peace Cafe. We hold regular evening & lunchtime meditation classes, courses and special events. The centre is open to the public and anyone is welcome whether Buddhist or non-Buddhist.

We are looking for volunteers for our World Peace Cafe May 2015 onwards short term and long term opportunities available. We do require a reference for all working visits.
As a Buddhist community, you would need to abide by our philosophy whilst in the centre - no eating or cooking meat, no drinking alcohol, no playing music, no smoking on the premises. Also as we are a quiet meditation centre helpers need to be considerate of others wishing to meditate, not being noisy in the building or when returning to the building.

While you are with us, you will be able to attend our meditation classes and courses on buddhism where these do not conflict with the working day (we have several evening classes). We are only accepting helpers who are interested in learning about meditation and Buddhist philosophy and wish to attend the classes. Buddhist philosophy teaches meditation and methods to overcome the daily stress and frustration of life and develop more peaceful, relaxed minds so that we can generally feel happier.

In return for 35 hours per week, we offer accommodation, food and free meditation classes.
Volunteering opportunities are varied and could include working in our World Peace Cafe, decorating, helping with administration, cooking or cleaning.

The centre is located in the conservation area of Leicester city, opposite the Cathedral and the Guildhall (one of the oldest buildings in the centre). King Richard III exhibition is opposite the centre and cafe entrance. The centre is only 10 mins walk from Leicester train station & 5 mins walk from Leicester coach station and is only 1hr journey from London, United Kingdom.
