Help needed at Buddhist centre
Report
Location: Derby, UK
About: ** Now receiving applications for immediate start** We are specifically seeking people with an interest in meditation and/or Buddhism and who would like to volunteer in building/cleaning/gardening/B&B or restaurant/cafe work. Cooking skills are also a plus as the Café soups and light meals are made on the premises. We would also welcome people with skills in computing and building. The centre is set in 38 acres of beautiful Derbyshire park land. Open to the public seven days a week, many visitors come to enjoy the grounds, meditation room, café, shop and Barn Bed and Breakfast. The Centre promotes the development of inner peace, compassion and wisdom. We are located about 30 minutes bus ride from the centre of Derby, and about 1 hour by bus from the Peak District, a national park which offers opportunities for walking, cycling and climbing. Flights to East midlands airport and London are often reasonable and from those cities you can get a cheap bus to Derby (megabus or National Express) or advance rail ticket (www.nationalrail.co.uk) The working hours are 9.00am - 5pm (includes 1 hour lunch break) 5 days a week with 2 days off with free entry to meditation classes. (please note that your days off may be during the week) Room and board is provided with cooked communal meals provided at lunch and supper time. Internet access (but not a computer) is available for light (email) use. We have people living and volunteering from all over the world here. It is a lovely, warm and vibrant place with plenty of opportunity to make friends and learn new skills. As a Buddhist community, you would need to abide by our philosophy whilst in the Centre - no eating meat, no drinking alcohol, no playing music and no smoking on the premises. Volunteering opportunities are varied and could include working in our world peace cafe, gardening, building, helping with administration, publicity design, cooking or cleaning If you are a long stay volunteer you would be expected to chip in generally with community life in addition to your set volunteer hours. Please bring a sleeping bag and work clothes. Application forms can be downloaded from our website under the 'working visits' section.
