I am looking for two people, a couple or a pair to assist me with the cleaning of my house for Bed & Breakfast guests. You will be required to clean bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas as well as washing and ironing the sheets. However if you have any particular skills let me know as we are always doing various projects to improve the place and are currently looking for a skilled painter or someone to set up a new garden area as we have recently extended our kitchen and built a terrace out into the garden. You will be needed to work in the morning time for four hours after which you are free to do as you please!
You will be staying in a downstairs bedroom in my home. The room has two single beds which can be pushed together for a couple if necessary. There is a toilet outside the room and showers upstairs. You will not be staying beside any guests but will be beside my room.
Breakfast will be provided and you may use the kitchen to make lunch as long as you keep it clean. You may use the kitchen to cook and use the general supplies such as oils, spices etc but if you want specific ingredients you can buy them in the local town. I usually cook dinner in the evening time and so will provide that for you also if you like but on the odd evenings that I'm not around you can look after yourself or head out to one of the many delicious local restaurants and pubs.
In your free time you are welcome to explore the local area, I can provide you with bikes, go off doing activities or hang out around the house, whatever you please. I will be working three days a week but only for a short few hours so will be delighted to bring you around and show you the local area if you like.
I have wifi in the house which you may use as well as a library with many books and board games which you may use.
If you have a car you may park in my garden free of charge, however a car is not necessary. Buses come from Killarney twice a day, you can get a train to Dublin or other parts of the country from there.
I am a very easy going person, I will be working in the house running the Bed & Breakfast as well as working in a local cafe a few days a week. I expect you to feel at home and comfortable here. I think communication is very important so please ask me any questions you may have and tell me what it is you wish to gain from this experience. The most important thing I am looking for is that you will be very clean, after that I just want you to enjoy yourself and fall in love with this beautiful part of Ireland!
My town is a small historical town nestled between two majestic mountains above the mouth of the Fertha River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and to discover the rugged Irish landscape.
County Kerry is famous for its beautiful mountains and sea as well as it's incredibly friendly people, music, art and culture. My house is in the town of Cahersiveen which is full of small cafes, old pubs, restaurants, craft shops, galleries and story tellers. There are a lot of artists living in the area with an artists residency and gallery in the next town.
Every weekend there is music in the local pubs, locals play traditional Irish music. There are many mountains to climb boasting magnificent views of the ocean and landscape at the top. There are also a number walking trails and loop walks from Cahersiveen giving you an opportunity to explore the wider area. As we are by the sea there are a number of beautiful white beaches and secluded swimming spots, Finian's Bay, a nearby beach is a great surfing spot also. If you enjoy fishing you can fish on the local Fertha River or in the sea by a lovely secluded harbour where we always catch delicious mackerel! There are a number of fairy forts in the local area, these are historical pre-Christian burial tombs with high stone walls. Ballycarbery Castle is an old castle ruins which is beautiful to visit also.
Outside the town, on my uncle's farm is a Dark Sky Reserve. This is the only gold standard Dark sky reserve in the northern hemisphere, there are two more in the Southern hemisphere, at the Grand Canyon and in the Sahara Desert.
Valentia Island is a short cycle away, you can access it by ferry, there is an old light house to visit, a Slate Quarry, tennis courts (I can lend you tennis rackets), a water trampoline here, kayaks to rent and the opportunity to go sailing around the island, two beautiful hills that you can climb and view the coast of Ireland and surrounding islands.
I think that from staying in this area you can really learn about Irish culture and community. There is an incredible sense of community here with local sports teams playing Gaelic football as well as rowing teams. There are yoga classes in town and on Valentia Island regularly as well as paddle boarding classes and sailing classes.
