Wanted! Volunteer Teachers to Teach in the Indian Himalayas

We are looking for individuals who would like to spend one to two years teaching at our school in the foothills of the Himalayas. GEMS is a not for profit school, catering to 200 children from 25 different villages in the Jounpur Block of Garhwal, Uttarakhand. We offer classes from Lower Kindergarten to class eight.We would prefer qualified teachers, but if you have a skill which would lend itself to teaching English, social studies, math, science, or computers, arts, sports, or music, then we would love to hear from you. Teaching in our school gives you the opportunity to literally change lives, as the students in GEMS are the first generation in their family to benefit from English Medium, quality education, which will open so many opportunities and enhance their quality of life in years to come. Our children love to learn, and know the real value of education. You can be a part of this transformation simply by giving of your time. One year of your life can transform the lives of several.
Volunteers stay with us in our small village of Sainji, population 400, which is one of 250 villages in the tribal block of Jounpur, which is located in one of the most beautiful areas of India, if not the world.
In exchange for your time, you will have the opportunity to take part in cultural activities, get to know the local people and visit other villages in the area. Sainji is just 45 minutes from the famous hill station of Mussoorie, and three hours from the Yoga capital of Rishikesh and we are on route to many trekking destinations in the Himalayas.
