WindSong is 120 acres in Southern Arizona.
We're 15 minutes North of Douglas, AZ (and Agua Prieta, MX),
35 minutes East of Bisbee, AZ.
This place was first established in the early 80's by a couple who were both mineralogists,
one of them world-renowned for his work with the Smithsonian.
Today there remains a quarry of colorful and sparkling mineral rocks which they imported for study.
The site has multiple living quarters with a maximum capacity of 8-15 people
(and space for an additional 15 campers).
There are two standard gardens, an aquaponic garden, a small orchard,
and an amazing greenhouse which boasts 10+ fruiting citrus trees, mangoes,
surinam cherries, sweet potatoes, herbs and flowers.
We also have a watch tower, an underground bunker, lots of spots for relaxing in the shade,
and fire pits for nighttime gatherings.
There are two full kitchens, 3 bathrooms, and soon to be more outdoor facilities.
We get delicious well water which has been multi-tested for purity.
The greenhouse kitchen and study both have central air conditioning
and can be used for desk work.
Local wildlife includes mule deer, javelina, desert hares, cottontails, Bufo Alvarius toads,
quail, a variety of colorful songbirds, and foxes.
We also have two pets on the property: Quint the Cat and Triple the Dog.
Both are sweet animals and we'll be adopting a second dog soon.
Helpers are welcome to be as a private as they'd like, but we also provide
communal space for meals, activities, and conversation.
Like most places, we offer room and board in exchange for 20 hours of
weekly work. Work schedules are somewhat flexible to accommodate
each volunteer's needs.
For those who are on a spiritual path in life, there is a government-sanctioned
organization called Peyote Way Church, north of WindSong, who offer
Peyote retreat experiences.
And if you stay long enough you'll discover WindSong's namesake -- a mysterious harmonizing
tonality that fills the air when the wind blows in just the right direction.
Some say that this is caused by the natural geography of the area... but others have
discovered the true source of the song.
