UPDATE July 20, 2021: the guest hermit cabin is now mostly complete, and applications are now being accepted for guest hermit stays of two weeks to 3 months starting October 1, 2021. Please go to meditationhermitage.org for more information.
Welcome to the Savanna Hermitage, a small private monastic hermitage inspired by Zen meditation, Taoist internal alchemy qigong, esoteric yoga, and solitude in nature. Currently only the host lives here, and is constructing a small off grid zero carbon emissions guest cabin with passive solar heating, solar electricity, and rainwater collection on 20 acres of rural land near the Chiricahua mountains. In the future upon completion, this guest cabin will house two guest practitioners and teachers of meditation, qigong, tai chi, and yoga. Currently I am open to anyone who would like to help in its construction, and learn how to build a simple and inexpensive Eco cabin.
In exchange for 12 hours of work a week helping me construct the guest cabin, you will receive three meals a day of simple healthy vegan food. Typical meals will consist of oatmeal in the morning, whole grains, beans, and vegetables for lunch, and salad, popcorn, and leftovers for dinner. You can also supplement with your own food. Please no alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or other drugs. It is preferable that you bring your own lodging such as your own van, RV, other vehicle, or tent since I currently do not have other lodging on-site other than my own small one room cabin. There is plenty of space for parking and camping. No prior experience with construction is required, and you will learn how to construct a simple and inexpensive Eco cabin.
In the afternoons and days off, you can explore the outstanding hiking trails in the nearby Chiricahua mountains at Chiricahua National Monument (17 miles) and the Coronado National Forest at Turkey Creek (12 miles), as well as the historical towns of Bisbee and Tombstone (50 miles).
Covid-19 health protocols will be followed, and we will be working primarily outside. Any pets must be quiet and restrained on a leash at all times.
