Location: Matittuck, New York, United States
60 acres of farmland on the Northfork of Long Island. Seeding, transplanting, composting, laying out raised soil beds, irrigation, activism, harvesting, boxing veggies, building alternative energy. Suggested length of stay for volunteers, Local Long Island volunteers recommended, but not a must, no accommodations, only barn. New volunteers start on Saturdays and / or Sunday, 10:30am to 5:00pm, weekdays hours are flexible. No accommodations at this time. Non-farming activities, Retrofitting barn and other buildings for water collection, restoring vintage equipment to working order, Biodiesel, Geothermal, Solar voltaic, Wind energy, Solar hot water. Make a commitment and keep your word, stay the course. Nearby area sights and fun things to do: Popular vineyards, community fairs, Greenport fishing village, and various local farms. Splish Splash water park. Long Island Railroad to Matittuck, or LIE (Interstate 495) to exit 71 North, Sound Ave East, Mill Road North till end. Languages spoken, English. Children and pets welcome. Our Goal is to get all of Long Island to be organic, (commercial and private) within 10 years. All of Long Island grid free and energy independent within 20 years
