Home-based vegetable gardens & landscaping at the University of Virginia

We are always looking for great helpers. We ask only honesty, kindness, a willingness to learn - and we hope you have a good sense of humor. We usually take gap year students. You must be 17 1/2 or older.We are located next to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains; there are many beautiful walks and hiking trails. We are in the middle of Virginia's wine-producing country, surrounded by history, including the homes of three early presidents. I'm from England originally, but I've been in the US for many years. My son is here but he's usually too busy with his university studies to do much. Of course, we'll house you, feed you and look after you.
We plant many kinds of fruits and vegetables, always experimenting and trying new things. We are doing maintenance, extension and improvement of our home, including several small building and landscaping projects. I also run a real-estate business and a non-profit foundation.
We enjoy good conversation, our peaceful garden and road-trips (usually with our helpers!) - perhaps somewhere of your choosing. As a single Dad, businessman, chef of the house and full-time servant, I'm usually busy. We have a happy, peaceful home and we try to have fun as we go. We usually start early, so you have time to explore our interesting city and beautiful mountains and countryside. There are beautiful walks and hiking trails nearby in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We're in wine-producing country, surrounded by history.
We have high-speed Wi-Fi, full laundry facilities and everything else to make your stay here comfortable. We will do everything possible to care for your needs.
