Report
Location: Talent, USA
Openings for next spring and/or apply for an Embodied Ecology Stewardship: http://www.selfsoulcenter.org/embodied-ecology/
We are looking for a dedicated, inquiring lover of gardening who wants to learn and create community over time. We ask for a minimum two month stay or come for the season! Learn to live sustainably and work with the Biodynamic way. You may ask to join our daily meditations or do other classes that are open. If you want to apply for farm help, email your full name (how you are registered at this website), your age, brief info about yourself and your experience with gardening, including dates you would like to come. The first week is a trial period to see if it’s a good fit for you and for us.
Our 25 acre non-certified organic, biodynamic creek-side farm supports a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, medicinals, chickens, a dog, worms and a greenhouse, 3 miles from Talent and 15 minutes from Ashland, Oregon. Our vision is to provide a beautiful refuge, make healthy products from the harvest, and increase the botanical diversity, providing benefits to our community. Work includes gardening, irrigation maintenance, chicken care, making medicinal & edible products, and maybe simple carpentry projects. Some experience in planting and harvesting is helpful.
The work is 30 hours a week, usually 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. Your day off is flexible, but preferably Monday - Thursday.
We have two living arrangements: a private sun room off of our main house and a private cabin heated by wood with a humanure toilet, no running water, or power, solar shower, with bathroom/shower facilities nearby. Please no children, pets, smokers or drugs.
We focus on living in community and living sustainably. We eat mostly what we can grow and local products. Each person is expected to help clean up. Breakfast and lunch are serve yourself meals made from the food on hand. Dinners are shared with the farm owners and based on the current crops available. We are primarily vegetarian, but also eat some organic meats. Cannot accommodate strict vegans or paleos. We are only fluent in English.
Successful farmers are comfortable with solitude and working independently yet enjoy active discussions around spirituality, personality and living in the world.
Talent is nearby to air or bus travel (Medford) or farther away via train (Klamath Falls). Transportation into nearby cities is available by bike or can be scheduled with the owners. Rogue Valley has great hiking and biking, excellent theater (Oregon Shakespeare Festival and more), music and lots of places to explore!
