Have you ever wanted to explore the National Parks of Southern Utah: Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Canyonlands, The Wave, and Grand Staircase National Monument? We are an international Hostel, Bed and Breakfast, and Extended-Stay accommodation. Come stay with us and help host thousands of guests from all over the world who come here to vacation.
Our volunteer staff is a vital part of our hostel, and for five days each week, you will help to create a positive, upbeat hostel environment for guests by greeting travelers, interminglimng with the family, providing tourist information, serving breakfast, assisting with daily upkeep, and answering questions. On your days off you can go explore, hike, camp, fish, and play in this scenic Western wonderland!
In exchange for room and board, you will be helping with one of three shifts each day.
Morning shift: 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. Duties: unlock doors, turn on lights, set out and monitor the breakfast bar, check guests out, strip beds, clean rooms, and start the laundry.
Afternoon shift: 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Duties: empty the trash, clean the bathrooms, clean the kitchens, and work on improvement projects.
Evening shift: 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Duties: prepare dinner for the staff, finish laundry while waiting for guests to arrive, check in guests, and coordinates activities with the guests.
You have time each day to explore, hike, and meet new people. You get a scheduled 48 hours off every 4 days, so some are on the weekend and some are during the week. We can also adjust that schedule.
Clothing: I would suggest bringing a hat for the sun, a jacket for the evening, hiking boots for outings, and sun screen. It is best to wear t-shirts or other clothes that you don't mind getting bleached to work in because that does happen at times. Comfortable, secure shoes are best for working in as well. We do not allow tank tops or short shorts while working. You will be given a badge to wear to designate you as a staff member.
Food:
For breakfast you can partake of the breakfast bar or fix yourself eggs or pancakes with supplies provided in the kitchen. Dinner is prepared for all the staff by those on the evening shift. We all eat together "family style" because that is also when we have staff meeting and discuss any pertinent events, issues, or schedule updates. For lunch you can eat leftovers from dinner, fix yourself something in the kitchen with supplies provided, or go out to lunch in town. (There are quite a few excellent restaurants within walking/biking distancve, and everyone has a favorite!)
Accommodations:
You will be staying in a private room or with the person you are traveling with. The room is in our staff area where other volunteers stay in other private rooms. You will share a bathroom and showers with other workers and guests.
This program is a Cultural Exchange/Volunteer program. You will be volunteering and staying at our place while you visit the National Parks in the area and socializing with other international guests. You will learn many things while you are here, but non-U.S. citizens are NOT be employees or take jobs from local workers. Please keep this in mind when you go through customs so you are not sent home.
NOTE: Because we offer full room and board (meals), we do not offer any monetary ($) compensation.
