VOLUNTEER FOR THE COMMUNITY-BASED CONSERVATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION PROJECT IN COSTA RICA!!
The Corcovado Foundation and Climate Change Adaptation Costa Rica, together withe the Paquera - Tambor Marine Area for Responsible Fisheries (AMPR), and the Association of Dive-Fishermen of Paquera (ABUZPA) is opening an exciting volunteering program starting on February 15, 2018 in Labors to Adapt to Climate Change in the Communities of Paquera and Tambor. This program offers volunteers the opportunity to come and work mainly in the rural community of Paquera in activities directly related to the efforts of the AMPR, ABUZPA, and the community to adapt to climate change.
Our program offers you as a volunteer the opportunity to come and be part of all these efforts.
You can make the difference!
We need volunteers from all other the world who want to come and help us make the difference for the community of Paquera through the coordination of AMPR and the Paquera Divers Association.
When can you come and volunteer with us? You can come to do volunteer work with us any time of the year.
Minimun Stay: Any
Requisitos: Aged 18 or over, in good physical condition, with basic Spanish. You must be friendly, communicative and able to work for 4-6 hours per day. You must have a medical travel insurance policy for the duration of your stay.
Location:
All volunteers will stay in the town of Paquera, at the Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica. Accommodation is in private rooms of our homestay network, an unforgettable experience. The family will provide you with food during your stay.
Your work as a Volunteer:
Volunteers will have the possibility of working in labors to Adapt to Climate Change in the rural communities of Paquera and Tambor. The main labors that are performed all year long:
CONSERVATION WORK AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION:
SELF-SUSTAINABLE FAMILY FARMS:
Planting new fruit trees.
Weeding.
Bagging the product for fruit protection.
Harvesting the fruit.
Collection of the waste generated during the harvest.
Sale of the product in the local "farmers markets".
Infrastructure maintenance.
CONSERVATION AND RECOVERY OF VULNERABLE ECOSYSTEMS:
Curú Wildlife Refuge:
Help with environmental education programs.
Maintain the labeling of the area.
Collaborate with the cleaning and collection of non-organic waste.
Paquera Professional and Technical High School Reserve:
Micro farm of lemons.
Micro production of Tilapias.
Micro poultry farm.
Maintenance and tourism in the forest reserve.
The project needs the participation of volunteers to carry out activities such as:
a. Planting of new fruit trees.
b. Harvest of the fruit.
c. Collection of the waste generated during the harvest.
d. Preparation of lemons for sale.
e. Infrastructure maintenance of the Tilapias pond and the poultry farm.
f. Cleaning of trails in the reserve.
g. Maintain the labeling of the area.
FISHING MONITORING:
The project needs the participation of volunteers to carry out activities such as:
Monitoring of catches
Data entering
Helping the members of the collection centers.
MONITORING AND CONSERVATION OF MANGROVES:
In these mangroves, project volunteers will contribute to:
• Install research and monitoring plots.
• Data collection (measurements of height, diameters, condition of trees and
population structure) in research plots.
• Evaluation of fauna and flora associated with mangroves.
• Mangrove reforestation.
• Mangrove cleaning.
• Monitoring of mollusks.
What about Free Time?
We know that volunteers come not only to work but also to discover the incredible nature of Costa Rica. You will have a day off in which you can choose to enjoy the town and its attractions, or acquire excursions and other activities. You can also spend time with your host family or relax at one of the beautiful nearby beaches.
