Save Our Sea Turtles is a community based organization, founded in 2000 with an ambitious mission to conserve Tobago’s sea turtles and their coastal and marine habitat through research, education and eco-tourism. The organization accepts volunteers and interns to help monitor three key index nesting beaches nightly, as well as a mobile patrol group monitoring other nesting beaches each week.
Volunteers are expected to arrive physically fit since they will be patrolling on foot and the minimum time commitment between March and September (nesting season). Education outreach and assistance with research may also be required. And while SOS does provide training on arrival, preference is given to persons with prior sea turtle or other conservation related experience.
Volunteers are asked to stay a minimum of four weeks.
There is no fee to volunteer, and volunteers are expected to cover their own living, lodging, health insurance.
