We run an ranch located in the middle of the beautiful Pantanal (Mato Grosso do Sul state), the largest wetland area of the world, with incredible nature and wildlife.
We take care of the goats, sheep and cows and train our young horses. Your daily tasks at the fazenda will depend on your skills and interests and vary per day, as does the workload. You will work together with our permanent staff that manages the fazenda, real Pantanal cowboys.
At the ranch the permanent staff only speaks Portuguese (basic Portuguese or Spanish is required but it is a good place to improve the your language skills).
We have a hammock and camping site called Xaraes Natura located about 1,5 km from the ranch where we receive guests. Sporadically we would appreciatte some help at this place as cleaning and guests attendance.
I (Olivia) live at the ranch but most of the time staying at the house with my child.
If you like children we would also appreciatte to help us with our kid. She is 4 years old and since we are on a remote area with no other children around it is very nice to have someone else to contact with and play:)
We are looking for 2 kinds of volunteers. One to train our horses and one for general farm work and help with our child.
For the horse training we are looking for people who want to work with horses and practice their horsemanship knowledge. We breed arabian, lusitano and pantaneiro horses for work with the cattle at the ranch and ecoturism at Xaraes Natura. We are looking for help from suitable people to help with feeding, training, handling young horses and breaking in as well, etc.
For general farm work we are looking for people suitable to help to feed the motherless goats, sheep, calves; and help out with horses and cows. Experience in milking cows is appreciated.
You will need to have experience with horses for both volunteer options. We do not have permanent staff on site to take you horse riding if you are beginners.

Accommodation and meals are simple and rustic (no air conditioner, hot shower and no laundry).
We live surrounded by nature and share our living space with parrots, insects, spiders, frogs and the occasional bat. Maybe you will have to share a bathroom or room with other volunteer. It is your own responsibility to clean your room and bathroom.
If you have not already done so and would like to know more about volunteer experiences, check the comments left by previous volunteers on helpx.
Let us know if you are still interested so we can help to arrange your arrival,
