We are a Ugandan Non-Governmental Organisation that was established in 2007 to support poor vulnerable communities, including rural farmers, vulnerable children, women, youth, people living with HIV/AIDS, and the disabled. Our mission is to improve community livelihoods through rights empowerment; sustainable agricultural production; environmental conservation; health education and promotion; economic empowerment and nutrition; skills development and educational support. The organisation has well established offices in central and western Uganda especially in the districts of Hoima, Kibaale and Wakiso. Since our establishment, we have designed and implemented a number of projects with major donors such as USAID, UNDP, and WWF, thus reaching several thousands of beneficiaries.
We provide volunteer and internship opportunities in a wide range of project areas. You are able to concentrate your time on one project or a number of projects, depending on your length of stay and interests. Since its inception the organisation has hosted over 100 international volunteers from countries such as Brasil, Catalonia, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
While volunteering with us it’s not just about your time working on projects but also the time spent experiencing Uganda, it’s people and the many activities that are available. Some of the activities include visiting Mountain Gorillas and chimpanzeees and travelling to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track endangered rhinos for a day. You can take a safari to see the big 5, the wide variety of birdlife, wild waterfalls and scenery ranging from beautiful open savannas, to spectacular mountains and forests thick with lush vegetation.
We are looking for volunteers from abroad who can help in Hoima district of western Uganda. We can also consider helping in Wakiso and Kibaale districts if preferred. We would like to have volunteers that are patient, flexible, friendly, and outgoing. It is a bonus to have knowledge in community work, organic farming, permaculture and sustainable farming, education, or health. They must be ready to learn and adapt to our culture and have empathy.
Each volunteer has a different background, interests, and set of skills. The organization is currently implementing projects are about economic empowerment of children, youth and women, sustainable farming, health including HIV/AIDS prevention, and education in the Hoima area; so every volunteer is sure to have something to do that they like. We design volunteering programs so that they are all customized according to our needs and the volunteer’s preferences.
Volunteers are welcome for any period of time, whether on the short or long term. Volunteering programs will be made accordingly so that you can reach your objectives and ensure that you can contribute to the best of your capacity. Each volunteer has a one week orientation period which he/she must go through. Given our current programs, we are particularly interested in volunteers who want to work in Sustainable agriculture, education, health, management, or your own project!
Please note that we ask for $3/ day to provide for your meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and accomodation. To learn more about the organisation and previous volunteers' testimonials, visit: https://ecoagricuganda.org/
