St. Miracle Works Educational Foundation is a recognized local nonprofit/charity organization based in Ghana. The projects of the foundation are Teaching, Childcare, Healthcare, Farming, Social Work, Sports and Community Development Projects of children. The work of the foundation is carried out by a dedicated local hardworking staff and incredibly supported continuously by both local and international volunteers/interns from all over the world.

The Mission of SMWEF is to bring together individuals from around the world to make a positive impact on local communities in Ghana. To create a conducive and supportive environment to empower and transform lives and communities in a positive way.

Vision

We aspire to be a reference organization reputed for the clinical and effective execution of developmental projects in deserving communities in Ghana which positively affects livelihood of beneficiary communities.

Our dedicated, experienced and hardworking staff work together with all our volunteers to improve on the quality lives of the children, families and deprived communities in need. We are cooperating, collaborating, loving and real friends. As a volunteer, you are completely part of us and you should feel exactly at home immediately as you arrive in Ghana. The Community at large is very safe and friendly to welcome all our volunteers that choose to volunteer/assist with our community development projects in rural communities in Ghana. Volunteers work with locals to make sure the projects get completed and match the needs of the people they are benefiting.

The organization runs its own school, daycare center and sports academy for social change located at Senya Beraku in a historic coastal community in the central region of Ghana. Our school is a sustainable school with different activities but less staff. We runs school garden: as a volunteer you have possibility to help the kids in the garden, help with weeding and planting, during teaching, the teacher has a lot so you will assist in planning lessons together with the teacher, sometimes help the children in practical basic computer skills and creative arts lessons. Those who have additional skills like musicals, we have drums which we shall involve you in musical class which is also part of our creative art curriculum. We give the opportunity to volunteers who have recycling ideas and building skills with cement and mortar to help and train the locals in the community. We also offer construction and renovation activities where volunteers will help construct school classrooms, libraries & computer lab, toilet facilities, drainage systems, paintings etc.

This program will improve on the skills of our potential volunteers who joins or participate in our community development project locally. This is a year round initiative/projects and needs a helping hands from volunteers all over the world to make a difference on the lives of disadvantaged.

WORKING ARRANGEMENT

Working hours:
1.Volunteers work 5 hours per day.
2. Volunteers have 2 days off for relaxation and site-seeing
3.Total time commitment are 25 hrs in a week.

Administrative Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

• Assisting with Administrative Tasks: Volunteers may also help with administrative tasks such as organizing files, data entry, or coordinating schedules to ensure smooth operations at the organization.
• Volunteers can help networking and marketing:- we would love to have our works reach as many more people as possible, therefore we invite different volunteers with skills in networking and marketing to spread the works of our project to various parts and seek more partners.
• Help us to fund raise for the project activities because the costs go beyond the reach of our abilities.

Childcare Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

As a volunteer for the Kindergarten/ Preschool Program in Ghana, your main tasks would be:
• Assist the local staff in the classroom, manage children and focus on them.
• Teach the children how to write their name, numbers, as well as nursery rhymes and songs.
• Focus on the development of fine motor skills as well as social skills.
• Play around with them, and keep them physically active.

Construction Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

Under the community development volunteer project in Ghana, volunteers will have the opportunity to work on several construction projects. A day to day work for the volunteers under this program would include;
• Volunteers who are willing to do some physical work can assist in the construction project either school building, libraries, toilet, drainage systems, community centers, ICT lab etc.
• Volunteers work along with local people with tasks includes paintings, brick laying, block shaping, carpentry, steel bending, plastering, mortar mixing, fetching of water, electrical works, digging drenches and bricks molding etc.

Sports Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

The people of Senya Beraku love the game of football, especially since the community has got a brand new football stadium.
Volunteers, mainly, will be required to;
• Assist the local coaches in their daily practice schedule with the local players.
• Help the students in local schools to improve their game and organize football matches.
• Help in the development of football skills of young players.
• Create a game plan for the children to make it easier for them to adapt with and learn the skills.
• Interact with the children and understand their problems, and help repair their weak points in the game.

Teaching Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

Volunteering in Ghana requires volunteers to involve themselves in a number of activities, at the school, on a regular basis. Tasks include:
• Assisting the teachers to deliver lessons.
• Work with smaller groups helping them with their reading, writing and numeracy skills.
• Teach one of the classes yourself but you’ll be fully supported by a local staff if this happens.
• Design a proper study module for the children to follow.
• Involve students in out–of–the–class activities to teach them the importance of physical activity.

Girl-Child Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

Volunteering for girl education in Ghana requires volunteers to involve themselves in a number of activities, at the school, on a regular basis. This may include, but may not be limited to;
• Design a proper girl-child module for the girls in order to follow without difficulty.
• Involve girls in out–of–the–class activities and educate them the importance of being in school during their menstruation periods.
• Improving and motivating girls on the need to abstain from unnecessary acts that may lead to teenage pregnancy and school drop outs.
• Helping them know their girl-child rights and the importance of it towards their future aspirations and dreams.

Farming/Agriculture Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

• Helping with crops including corn, eggplants, capsicums and palms
• Farming animals like pigs, rabbits, goats and chickens
• Clearing and developing land for crops/farming
• Fertilizing, planting and nurturing crops
• Teaching farming techniques to locals
• Fencing
• Assisting with purchasing, moving and caring for stock.

Child labor & Trafficking Volunteers Roles & Responsibilities

• Volunteers will involve working directly with children and their families, fishermen and schools to stop rampant child labor and trafficking practices in fishing communities around Senya Beraku.
• Volunteers will conduct interviews with families, child labor and trafficking victims and the fishermen who hire them.
• Volunteers/interns will help with the entering and analysing the data, attending meetings with community leaders to discuss findings, negotiating solutions to rescue children.
• Writing project reports and proposals for donors and assisting with daily office duties.
• Volunteers/Interns will also participate in the selection of children eligible for sponsorships to return to school.

LIVING ARRANGEMENT

Accommodation is provided all year round.Our host families are carefully screened, socially respected and experienced with hosting international volunteers. Wherever you stay, your accommodation with SMWEF is safe, clean and comfortable. In most cases, you will share a room with volunteers (of same gender). We offer 3 meals a day of local cuisine. Typically, volunteers eat breakfast and dinner at the home base (or host family) and have lunch at their project. We offer fresh, nutritious and safe local foods to our volunteers to eat. We also work extremely hard to maintain our facilities in a positive condition.
