Greetings,My name is Ruth. I live in a village near Mbale, Uganda, at the foot of Mount Elgon with my daughter. We decided to help local children who are orphans, abandoned, or otherwise disadvantaged. They drop out of school because of their difficult financial and/or medical situation. Some girls get pregnant as young as 12 years old and get forced into early marriages.
With the help of volunteers, we aim to send these children back to school so that they may have a better future. Let's work together to change their way of living!
In your free time, you can enjoy hiking on Mount Elgon. You can visit the waterfalls at Wanale Ridge and other scenic spots in the neighborhood.
WORKING ARRANGEMENT
You can help in several ways including:
• Teaching English or PE at the primary school.
• Helping in the construction/renovation of buildings.
• Gardening, housekeeping, and taking care of the animals.
• Organizing fundraising campaigns online.
LIVING ARRANGEMENT
You will be staying in a volunteers' house sharing a room of 2-3 beds. You can take part in local events, taste our traditional dishes, and learn about our culture. There's no minimum length of stay.
Please be aware that because our organization runs on a very low budget, I cannot always provide you with free meals! If that's the case, you can buy food for yourself for a few dollars per day. Thank you for your understanding.
