Location: Kabale, Uganda
Baheka Travel's Sustainable & responsible tourism approaches through volunteer and voluntourism offerings have the potential to resonate community development (UN) goals. By crafting specific strategies that highlight the unique appeal of each program and ensuring alignment with trends of sustainable & responsible travel trainings to communities and industry players. This concepts can significantly broaden Baheka's customer base, household income and particularly for corporate teams which adds on a global relevance and will enhance Baheka's appeal as a purpose-driven travel provider that supports community, environmental conservation and sustainability for future generation's use. I find this thoughts and analysis a worthwhile and valuable.
why volunteer with us?
Volunteering:
• Authentic Immersion: This offers guests a genuine opportunity to live and work within the local Ugandan community. Engaging in projects such as teaching, feeding animals, and garden management can be deeply rewarding and transformative. Guests will likely leave with a profound understanding of Ugandan culture and rural life, something that standard tourism packages rarely offer.
• Cultural and Social Impact: Since this involves working directly with families and communities, it presents an opportunity to contribute to local development efforts, especially in education, agriculture, and conservation. This type of tourism aligns with the growing trend of purpose-driven travel, where travellers seek to make a difference while they explore.
• Socially Responsible Appeal: Baheka’s promise to support community projects, especially focusing on women and children, adds a layer of responsibility and care that will resonate with travellers seeking meaningful contributions. The fact that they focus on sustainable tourism is a great advantage.
• Pricing Strategy: The pricing is clearly laid out and includes a range of options depending on the duration of stay, making it accessible to various types of travellers. However, the absence of included excursions might deter some guests. A suggestion would be to offer small, affordable excursions as part of the package, which could increase appeal.
Voluntourism:
• Best of Both Worlds: The idea of combining volunteering with adventure tourism is brilliant. It allows guests to both contribute to the community and satisfy their desire for exploration and adventure. For many, this can be a more well-rounded and enriching experience.
• Differentiated Experience: Voluntourism is not only about seeing new places but also about engaging with local communities on a deeper level. This could differentiate Baheka Travel from competitors, many of which likely focus only on traditional safaris and sightseeing.
• Emotionally Resonant: “Voluntourists leave with hearts full and minds blown” is an effective way to capture the emotional draw of this type of trip. Such experiences are likely to lead to positive reviews, repeat customers, and word-of-mouth marketing.
• Flexibility of Packages: Baheka offers a custom-created experience, which is a huge advantage. This flexibility can attract a broader audience, including both younger, adventurous travellers and older, more established individuals who want to give back.
• Pricing and Clarity: The voluntourism packages are well-priced for the experiences provided. However, it might help to offer more detail about the specific activities included in these custom-created adventure packages so that guests can better understand the value they are getting. Also, ensuring that guests are well-prepared with health insurance and necessary vaccinations should be emphasised, perhaps through a guide or checklist to smooth the booking process.
