The Gayela Chidren Foundation was founded as non-profit community-based organization in Jinja district in Uganda. It was started by a team of dedicated persons with the aim of helping the marginalized children and those infected with HIV/AIDS. It began with two children who were found victims and now we have registered ten children. We have a vision of identifying the less privileged and marginalized children, meeting and providing the love, care, nourishment, guidance, and the highest level of education so that they can grow to be valued society members with a desirable and promising future.
Volunteers will be expected to teach and play with the children in their free time when they are not at school. They will go with them to garden and for village walks. If volunteers know arts and crafts to teach the children that will be very useful. There are weekly programs planned at Gayela Children Foundation so you will always know what to expect and plan for and look forward to! An example of a day at the Foundation is to wake up early to assist in making breakfast for the children and then walk them to school. While they are at school, prepare lunch and pick up the kids and bring them back to school. For the rest of the day volunteers will prepare activities for the children for when they return from school like arts and crafts or language teaching, the day would end with preparing dinner. We charge 140,000 Ugandan Shillings a week (~$37USD) to help buy food.
